One of our favorite breakfast spots in Melaque is El Patio, on the same side of the street and just west of the Bus Depot and Roosters. You can actually walk right by the place if you’re not looking for the restaurant, there are three tables out front on the sidewalk that give it away. Our first time there we didn’t even know there was a beautiful courtyard patio inside, past the kitchen.

El Patio is open for breakfast and lunch, offering Mexican and Gringo cuisine, from omelets to waffles smothered in fresh fruit. My most pleasant surprise so far has been a clubhouse sandwich that was better than most I’ve had at home. It had all the right ingredients along with a couple slices of fresh avocado, and a side of hot and crispy french fries.

I usually opt for the meat lovers omelet and Cathryn gets the vegetarian. While you wait for your food at El Patio be sure to try one of their freshly squeezed juices or smoothies.
